Library HistoryThe Bellwood Public Library was established in 1932 and for 20 years was located on the second floor of the old Village Hall. With the increase in population the library moved to the store at 2728 St. Charles Road adjacent to the Village Hall.
In 1958, a bond issue was approved and in May of 1960, a new library building was opened at its present site at the corner of Washington Boulevard and Bohland Avenue. In October of 1974, the voters approved an expansion program for the library. Since 1974, the library has made several expansions and internal improvements. The library has also made technological improvements including an automated circulation system and a new on-line catalog. It has a large and varied collection of materials for patrons of all ages, interests and abilities. As a member of the Metropolitan Library System, the Bellwood Public Library can provide you with a wide range of materials and services in addition to those available locally
